Project Overview

This project consisted of the relocation of a historical locomotive and tender that has been a heritage monument in the city of Guelph for decades. A large concrete structural plinth was constructed in the new park prior to the relocation of the monument. Site works included excavation and disposal of contaminated soil, work around power lines and burried conduit, construction of a new precast retaining wall and temporary road construction. A gantry system was constructed around the locomotive which lifted it on to a specialized trailer. The locomotive was successfully relocated to the new location and placed onto the concrete plinth. This project required precise planning and coordinating. A live track crossing over a Metrolinx track required specialized engineering and construction of a temporary crossing by the contractor. The project was successfully completed on time to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
